ABOUT US |
 | Deborah Richter is an accomplished Spanish Instructor who has been teaching Spanish language over the past 20 years. She holds degrees in Spanish Literature, Education, and Physical Education from Whitman College. Her teaching experience includes Spanish instruction and Latin dance to children at the YWCA in Walla Walla, English instruction to Native Spanish-speakers at Walla Walla High School, several summers teaching private English in Spain, and 12 years teaching beginning through advanced Spanish in the Tacoma School District. Along with her colleague Isis Tabares, Deborah runs a series of Spanish training for educators throughout the state. She has also been teaching classes and workshops at La Unica Spanish Instruction Center which she founded in 2003. Deborah frequently travels to Spain where she has studied at La Universidad de San Agustin and at Saint Luis University Madrid. Other Spanish-speaking countries that she has visited include Panama, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Perú, Colombia and Venezuela. A vibrant and successful teacher, Deborah understands that her students absorb and learn information more effectively when they are simultaneously having fun. For this reason, her sessions are interactive, energetic and very enjoyable. More importantly, participants in her classes walk away with high-retention of what they have been taught as well as the skills to apply their newly attained knowledge. It gives Deborah tremendous satisfaction to be teaching such wonderful and highly motivated members of her community! |

Isis Tabares is a native Spanish-speaker who was born in Colombia, S.A. She came to the US with her family at the age of six, which has given her beneficial exposure to both the Spanish and the American culture. She studied Spanish at Pacific Lutheran University in Parkland Washington, graduating with bachelor degrees in both Spanish and Education. Isis also studied Physical Education and Recreational Sports while attending PLU. She has worked as a Spanish tutor to adults and children and taught ESL (English as a Second Language). Isis has been teaching with the Tacoma School District for 10 years. Isis has experience working as an interpreter for lawyers and doctors as well as teaching Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced Spanish at both the high school and college level. She has taught Spanish for those preparing to travel to Spanish speaking countries and has trained business people to better communicate with their Spanish-speaking customers. Additionally, Isis has studied Spanish dance and has instructed aerobics that incorporates Spanish dance to both children and adults. Isis has traveled to many Spanish speaking countries including Venezuela, Colombia, Perú, Mexico, & Spain.
